It all started years ago when I was teaching in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Every day, a small group of students would gather in my tiny ESL room for lunch—our little safe haven. One afternoon, we got into a conversation about people around us who seemed sad or overwhelmed. Instead of just talking about it, we decided to DO something.

So we made simple cards—bright colors, kind words, drawings, messages of hope—and we quietly delivered them to students and staff who needed a lift. No recognition. No spotlight. We signed them all the same way: FOO Crew.

Before long, Maggie, Madison, Italo, and a whole group of 4th- and 5th-grade students joined the mission. What began as a handful of notes in a small classroom grew into a movement of kindness. We weren’t just making cards anymore—we were helping our school, serving our community, and looking for ways to make life better for anyone who crossed our path.

And now, the FOO Crew is growing again.

We’re taking on new projects, building new ideas, and committing ourselves to something bigger: spreading kindness, showing love, and enriching the lives of people near and far.
